Total MD is pleased to announce the addition Diego Rielo, MD

Dr. Diego Antonio Rielo is triple board-certified neurologist with extensive experience in general neurology, traumatic brain injury, electrophysiology, epilepsy, stroke medicine, and clinical research. He completed his medical degree at the Higher Institute of Medical Science of Santiago de Cuba graduating Summa Cum Laude and subsequently pursued postgraduate training in neurology at the University of South Florida, where he served as Chief Resident.

Since 2002, Dr. Rielo has practiced neurology in South Florida, while also developing a significant career in clinical research. His professional experience includes serving as Stroke Program Director at Memorial Hospital West and working with multiple clinical research organizations as a principal investigator and sub-investigator. His research experience encompasses numerous clinical trials involving neurological and neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, essential tremor, migraine, dementia-related psychosis, and diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain.

Dr. Rielo has been certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology since 2003 and has maintained his certification through recertifications in 2014 and 2024. His professional accomplishments include recognition as Outstanding Resident of the Year and Physician-Scientist Resident of the Year at the University of South Florida, as well as an Outstanding Leadership award for his role in achieving JCAHO certification for the Primary Stroke Center at Memorial Hospital West.
His academic contributions include authorship and co-authorship of neurology chapters for eMedicine, including work related to EEG and vagus nerve stimulation, as well as presentations at professional meetings and academic grand rounds.

Dr. Rielo is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. He is fluent in English and Portuguese and is a native Spanish speaker.
