Coronavirus/COVID-19 FAQs

For more information, here are some frequently asked questions (FAQ’s):

What are the symptoms for the Coronavirus/COVID-19? Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Does Total MD offer testing or treatment for the Coronavirus/COVID-19?

No – At this time testing or treatment for Coronavirus is not available at Total MD. Patients meeting the criteria for Coronavirus testing (fever, cough, shortness of breath, who have returned from international travel or a cruise within the last 14 days), should go directly to their local Department of Health.

Does Total MD offer a vaccination for Coronavirus/COVID-19?

No. There is currently no vaccine to prevent Coronavirus/COVID19.

Is it safe for me to visit Total MD?

All Total MD locations are taking additional steps to protect our patients and staff from Coronavirus by utilizing the triage and treatment algorithm released by the Florida Department of Health, as well as, requiring patients and staff to cover any active coughs.

How can I protect myself and/or prevent the spreading of the Coronavirus/COVID-19?

There are many precautions that you can take to protect yourself and others from contracting or spreading the Coronavirus.

  1. Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available. Gels, rubs and hand wipes all work well as long as they contain at least 60% alcohol.
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  3. Always be sure to cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or with the inside of your elbow, never your hands. Throw used tissues in the trash.
  4. Keeping at least six feet of distance from anyone who may be appear to be sick. The early signs of the virus can be spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs and sneezes.
  5. Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.

Is the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and the flu the same?

No, the Coronavirus is much more contagious than the flu! Although the Coronavirus and flu have very similar symptoms, most patients experiencing flu-like symptoms do not have Coronavirus.

Am I at a higher risk of getting sick from the Coronavirus/COVID-19?

Some of the criteria that may put you in a higher risk of getting very sick from this illness if may include:

  • Older adults

People who have serious chronic medical conditions like:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Lung disease
  • Chronic Kidney Disease

If you are at higher risk for serious illness, it is extra important for you to take the following actions to prevent getting sick with the virus:

  • Take everyday precautions to keep space between yourself and others.
  • When you go out in public, keep away from others who are sick, limit close contact and wash your hands often.
  • Avoid crowds as much as possible.
  • Avoid cruise travel and non-essential air travel.
  • During a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, stay home as much as possible to further reduce your risk of being exposed.

What can I do to reduce stress and stay calm?

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger.

Things you can do to relieve your stress:

  • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
  • Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.
  • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
  • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
